Camera Grading System
At The Film Wave, we are more than a camera reseller. We are a camera repair shop, and every camera we sell is fully serviced, CLA’d, and tested unless otherwise stated in the listing.
Each listing includes detailed notes on the camera’s functions, and we will always disclose any quirks or limitations. Lens condition and cosmetic condition are graded separately using the scale below.
Lens Grading System
As a camera repair shop, we do not offer cameras for sale with lenses graded below a B in condition.
A
Considered in great condition. Free of cracks, scratches, and fungus. May show very minimal discoloration in the lens coating consistent with age.
B
Good cosmetic condition. Free of cracks and fungus. May show coating discoloration or wear beyond what can be improved through cleaning, while still delivering excellent results.
Cosmetic Condition
Please refer to listing photos for the best overall representation of cosmetic condition.
A+
Near mint. Exceptionally clean and well-preserved for its age.
A
Great condition. May show very minimal signs of wear, such as light marks, slight discoloration to leatherette, or minor finish wear.
B
Good condition. May show more noticeable cosmetic wear, such as a small dent, hairline scratch, discoloration to leatherette, or moderate finish wear consistent with age and use.
C
The camera remains fully functional but shows clear signs of long-term use and age. This may include heavier scratches to the body, noticeable dents to panels or lens threads, or faded function markings.
A Note on Camera Grading
All cosmetic grades are intended to reflect the appearance of the camera relative to its age. Because these are vintage cameras, minor signs of wear are to be expected. We always aim to describe each camera as clearly and accurately as possible, and we recommend using the listing photos alongside the written grade for the best overall understanding of condition.
If you have any questions about a camera’s condition, please feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to help.
